Rampage was Cool Asf!
I am over infatuated with this movie you guys!
When I say this movie had me LOCKED IN!! Oh wow. In this review, I'll break down what I liked, disliked, character duos I enjoyed most, characters I couldn't stand, & you'll get the IMDb rating, my rating, and in the comments section is where you can give me your rating.
Enjoy.
First up!
This duo:
George (gorilla) & Davis (Rock's Character) had me ROLLIN! The chemistry between the two was superb! It wasn't cliche or annoyingly coy. It was spot on & believable. Dwayne Johnson owned his role as the primatologist that saved George as a baby from a group of poachers that were killing his mother right before his very eyes. His sentiments when telling Dr. Caldwell the story:
Caldwell: What happened to the poachers?
Davis: They shot at us. And missed.
I shot back.
I didn't.
The raw emotion when he speaks his lines makes you want to give him -alone- a ten out of ten stars. This duo gets a 9/10 rating from me. (and that's just because George isn't real)
Now, for the rest of the character line up...ugh, not so much. Dr. Caldwell, played by Naomie Harris, was about the only other character I enjoyed watching. Aside from the jerk in a suit that helped them out along the way, which he grew on me because he just came off as a cocky son-of-a-biscuit that I wanted to throat punch at first.
*details to come*
This duo:
I was so stoked to see how good these two meshed. It was a bit strained at first glance, the chemistry was a bit off in the beginning, but by the mid-range area & end of the movie, I was ready to see them in another movie together. Maybe a more realistic setting so the two could be more relaxed, because the scenes just seemed tense the entire time. But overall, I give this duo a 7/10.
This guy!
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is Harvey Russell. I enjoyed his character after the fact. First introduction, he made me want to put a sock in mouth & cover his face with a pillow. He just made my skin crawl. His character was coy & cocky. I hated him. But! The glimmer in the dark, he came through for my second favorite duo in the movie, Davis & Caldwell, to assist them in making sure George wasn't harmed in the military's tactics to save the city. Overall, I give his character a 5/10.
This duo:
(L:R) Brett Wyden & Claire Wyden: the brother & sister duo from the movie that needed to be shot on sight. No questions asked. The acting was horrible. The facial reactions were even worse. Brett's character, played by Jake Lacy, well, I hope I never see him in another movie. Moving on! His sister, played by Malin Akerman, has been in other movies I'm familiar with & I didn't like her in those either. I was unaware the character line-up before watching the movie, but I'm pretty sure anyone--and I do mean anyone--could have played this character duo better than either of these two. I give them a 4/10.
The rest of the characters in the movie are somewhat non-existent after a few scenes so I'll spare you the details on those. Without a few of these actors/actresses, this movie would have been great. I still enjoyed the action, however.
Okay...
My Mesh-up & rating:
If you take San Andreas, King Kong, Godzilla, & the wolf from Twilight (with webbed feet, however *pic below*), then you'll have Rampage. The directors were a bit overwhelmed with all the CGI going into it because it shows during some of the scenes in the movie. You can actually tell it wasn't happening. Nonetheless, this movie was a kick-ass good time & definitely one I'd re-watch with the entire family and, in that sense, I'm giving is a 7/10.
